Coconut oil can combat tooth decay

The miracle product now proven to prevent tooth decay

We know coconut oil is great for all sorts of things such as weight loss, healthy hair and skin, boosting the immune system and stress relief. Now it has been proven to inhibit the growth of plaque and tartar build-up; actively preventing tooth decay!
The Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland recently studied the oil in its digested form to test if it harboured antibacterial properties. What they discovered was indeed it is an antibacterial product and in fact it stops the bacterial multiplication process, proving a healthier mouth with much less risk of tooth decay!

Preventing tooth decay in Australia…

This new discovery has had scientists suggesting the oil be combined with toothpaste to help with oral health. However it is still undergoing rigorous testing and until the product hits our shores preventative dentistry will have to wait for the revolutionary product.

To help prevent tooth decay, at City Smiles in Melbourne, we recommend:

  • Brushing at least twice daily whilst holding the brush at a 45 degree angle
  • Flossing once daily
  • Regularly scheduling a check-up with an oral health professional in six month intervals
Also steps such as using a scraper to clean the tongue or using mouthwash can help neutralise the bacteria living in the mouth that causes plaque and bad breath.
Take care of your teeth; they have to last a lifetime!
