All-on-4 treatment
The all-on-4 treatment is an innovative treatment designed to replace missing teeth by placing four titanium implants in each jaw. The procedure is relatively quick and minimally invasive. In fact, the treatment can take between just one and three days to complete.
What does the treatment involve?
The first step in all-on-4 treatment is to come in for a consultation, at which time your dentist will examine your mouth and check that you are a suitable candidate for implants. Your dentist will check that your jaw bone density is sufficient by taking some x-rays. If the treatment is deemed appropriate, impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent to a laboratory to design and fabricate your dental bridge.
During the procedure itself, your dentist will clean your mouth and remove any damaged tissue and bacteria. Two small holes are then drilled at the front of your jaw, which will hold the front implants. Two more holes are drilled at the back of your jaw — these are carefully angled to offer support at the back of the bridge.
When your implants have been placed, the incisions are stitched closed. Either on the same day or in the next couple of days, your new teeth will be fitted. In some cases, a temporary overdenture may be placed for a few months while your implants heal.
What can I expect after the procedure?
It is quite normal to experience some bruising and swelling following the all-on-4 procedure. It might take a little time to get used to your new teeth, and you may experience some minor discomfort while you adjust and heal.
In the first few months after the procedure, you may need to avoid very hard foods so that you don’t disturb the process of your implants fusing with your jaw bone.
