Invisalign – The invisible way to straighten your teeth

Want An Invisible Way To Straighten Your Teeth? Here's How

Most Australians want straighter teeth but don’t necessarily want to wear unsightly metal braces. Invisalign solves both of these concerns.

Teenagers, young adults and working professionals would all agree that the sight of having a mouth full of metal is a less desirable option when it comes to straightening teeth. For this reason alone, many avoid the concept of orthodontic treatment and go on living with their crooked teeth.

No longer does this have to be the case with the inception of Invisalign – the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth. Here at City Smiles located in Melbourne; we are qualified practitioners of the Invisalign™ treatment with years of experience treating patients.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is a relatively new concept that makes conventional braces almost redundant. We utilise 21st century technology to manufacture clear aligners, customised to fit your teeth that gradually shift them into correct placement; no more metal wires and brackets.

The clear aligners are replaced at regular intervals throughout the whole teeth straightening process to ensure a consistent sequence of shifting is reached. This is usually every 2 to 3 weeks over the course of 6 months and up to 2 years, dependent on the level of treatment that is required.

The plastic aligners look similar to a sports mouthguard but are significantly thinner, making them much more comfortable to wear. The plastic is a non-toxic, medical grade material deemed completely safe by the Australian Dental Association.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Discretion-Professionals who work in corporate environments and teenagers concerned with their image can bask in the benefits of an unnoticeable method of straightening their teeth. Invisalign is also a removable apparatus, giving you the freedom to enjoy your favourite foods without feeling self-conscious.

Comfortable- The construction and material used to manufacture the plastic is generally more comfortable than the metal teeth-straightening alternative. The thin aligners fit neatly and securely around your teeth providing an optimal teeth straightening experience.

Cleanliness- Conventional braces make cleaning your teeth an unbearably difficult task to complete on a regular basis. If the teeth are not cleaned properly, the build-up of tartar can leave stains and marks surrounding the metal brackets. Invisalign is completely removable and allows full access to all areas of the mouth.

Lower risk- To move teeth, force needs to be applied which leads to risk of root resorption. This particular condition affects the root of the tooth effectively breaking it down which may lead to infected pulp and tooth loss. The more force that is used to move teeth, the more risk you are subject to regarding resorption. Invisalign uses a lesser amount of force to move your teeth when compared to conventional braces therefore the root resorption risk is significantly reduced.

Safety- Conventional braces are attached to your teeth using an adhesive to hold them in place so pressure can be applied through the metal wire.  When these braces are due to be removed, the adhesive can remove your tooth’s enamel. Invisalign does not use any type of adhesive or brackets to achieve straight teeth, therefore enamel scouring is not a concern.
